Step 1: Uninstall a recent version

To do so: Uninstall all unwanted versions from Control Panel as outlined in step 1 above Open your Windows Update page Search for “updates” In the results list,

look for any relevant security updates or service packs that have been recently released You can download and install them from here After you have downloaded and installed these items, reboot your computer and see if this fixes the issue.

Step 3: Check your system files for any issues

In some cases, there might be a corrupted or out of place file that is causing damage to your snap-ins.  Follow these steps to check your system files for any issues.

Open your “Run” dialogue box either by pressing Windows+R on your keyboard or clicking the orb in your taskbar Type cmd into this box and press enter You should see a black command prompt window appear Verify that you are looking at;

c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe

If not, do one of three things: Type cd \ to go back to the root directory Type cd system32 to go to the system files directory Type cd.. to go one directory up Now, try typing dir again.

This should show you all of your local filesystem paths To do a full checkup on your computer’s registry values and other system values, type sfc /scannow into this window.

You might get an error message that it cannot check everything because some files are in use – if so, reboot your machine and try running it again

If you still get an error message when trying to open the MMC snap-in, then move on to step 5 below.

Step 5: Reinstall .Net Framework 3.5

If you receive an error message saying that there was a problem with this snap-in’s manifest when you open the MMC snap-in, then it means that your .Net Framework 3.5 is either corrupted or not properly installed.

To fix this issue: Open Command Prompt Type in:

dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:"%systemdrive%\sources\sxs

and press enter If you receive an error message saying that the source could not be found, run Step 5 again.

This time, substitute “%systemdrive%\sources\sxs” with “%systemdrive%\source\” Wait for all of these files to copy into your system directory It may take a few minutes.

Once it completes, type in

"dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:"%systemdrive%\sources\sxs

again Wait for the files to copy Once it finishes, restart your computer

After you have rebooted, try running the MMC snap-in again.

If still no luck, move onto step 6 below.

Step 6: Repair .Net Framework 3.5 installation via Windows Update

If all else fails, then you can run Windows Update to repair your .Net Framework 3.5 installation.

This should only take a couple of minutes Open Command Prompt Type in “wuauclt /updatenow” without quotes and press enter.

The update process will start immediately – please wait for it to finish Once the update finishes, restart your computer.

If you still have this issue after updating .NET Framework 3.5, then move onto step 7 below

Step 7: Repair corrupted system files using DISM Type in:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

into Command Prompt While the scan is running, make sure that you do not close the command prompt window.

Let this process run until it has finished When it finishes, click ok. Your computer may go through a restart to finalize these changes.
