How to Install Kodi on Apple TV

Are you a fan of Kodi? Probably yes. You may have installed Kodi on different devices and all those other streaming devices as well. But, we bet you’ve never given a thought about installing Kodi on Apple TV.

That’s because it is difficult and complicated and not to mention the lengthy process of installation which makes it less likely for many users to install this amazing app on Apple TV.

So, if you’re one of those who would like to try out Kodi but don’t know how or where to start from, then read along as we help you get through with the installation process!

For those of you wondering what this Kodi is, here’s a brief overview – Kodi (formerly known as XBMC) is an open-source player that can be installed on different devices such as computers, smartphones, tablets and so on.

It allows users to stream their favourite TV shows and movies from the Internet for free.

How to Install Kodi on Apple TV

Step 1. Set Up Apple TV

To begin with, you’ll need to set up your Apple TV as its new out-of-the-box state does not come with Kodi installed.

To do that, you simply need to plug it in and connect it to a display device such as an HDMI monitor or a screen via the provided AV cable. You can also use VGA cables to connect it to older monitors and projectors.

Once done, turn on the power button and the display should indicate Welcome to your new Apple TV.

After that, select language preferences followed by Location; then enter your Password (if required) and select Done at last.

Step 2. Enable Apps from Unknown Sources

The next thing you do is to allow apps like Kodi from unknown sources.

To do that, simply head over to Settings > General and select the option called as Profiles & Device Management.

Once selected, you’ll see a profile for your Apple TV; then select Trust and hit Connect to Trust again.

When prompted with a warning message saying that such profiles could slow down your iOS device, simply ignore it and go ahead with the process.

After doing so, access the Home Screen on your Apple TV where you’ll find an icon of an open box labelled as Downloads which you should select by clicking on it.

Step 3. Download the Kodi App

Thereafter, you’ll see two options; one is File Manager and another is Web Browser on your Apple TV screen.

Select the file manager option since it lets us download the .deb file directly onto our Apple TV using an iOS device (iPhone/iPad etc).

Next up, you need to use your iOS device to visit http://sypher-media.ddns.net/apt/ where you can find links for some of the popular Kodi versions available out there (from which you can choose any).

When ready, tap on the blue link with xbmc in its name and choose to open it on a new page – not as a URL shortener.

You should then be redirected Kodi should be available for download now.

Step 3. Download Kodi

Once you go back to Home Screen, search for the word Downloads by clicking on the arrow pointing down under the TV’s display.

Find and select it wherein you should see your Apple TV device name followed by a Kodi installation file named Kodi-18 which you need to download.

As soon as the file has been downloaded, simply move ahead with the installation process by clicking on Open in “TV” which will automatically trigger your Apple TV to install it right away!

After that, head over to Home Screen once again where you’ll find the Kodi app listed among other apps installed on your Apple TV!
